On Sunday 2 April 2017 Colleen Molloy (National Development Officer for City of Sanctuary) and members of the Derby City of Sanctuary team attended a special service at the Walbrook Epiphany city centre group of churches. We presented the parish with a “Churches of Sanctuary” award in recognition of the great work done and commitment to future support of Sanctuary principles of learning, embedding and sharing best practice of welcome to sanctuary seekers. It was an inspiring morning and we were most impressed by what they had achieved so far. The churches have engaged with ongoing awareness raising, have a City of Sanctuary noticeboard,  provide shelter and support for a destitute family. They plan to welcome asylum seekers to their  lunch club and hold more events to connect asylum seekers with members of their congregation.
