City of Sanctuary Training
City of Sanctuary’s training offer supports organisations and local authorities to navigate difficult and polarised conversations about migration with confidence and care. The sessions focus on building understanding, addressing myths and misinformation, and developing practical skills to respond to challenging questions, whether in public settings, workplaces, or community spaces.
Grounded in lived experience and values-based approaches, the training helps participants create safer, more inclusive environments while strengthening trust, dialogue and community cohesion.

Right to Remain
We recently hosted two workshops with Right to Remain. Please find attached slides and below overview.
Session 1 Aims
- Show how the Toolkit can help people understand where they are in the system and what comes next.
- Explore the difference between legal advice (regulated, must be given by a qualified adviser) and legal support (knowledge-sharing, practical and emotional support that communities can provide).
- Practice using the Toolkit through interactive exercises, so participants leave feeling confident to apply it in real situations.
- Place this work in the context of the legal aid crisis – understanding why we are where we are, and why community knowledge is essential.
- Root our work in radical solidarity: refusing isolation, building trust, and making sure no one goes through the system alone.
Session 2 Aims
- Recap key lessons from the previous session From Legal Aid Crisis to Community Power: The Right to Remain Toolkit in Action focusing on difference between legal advice and legal support
- An overview of the legal aid crisis
- How to work with lawyers: what to expect, how to prepare and get the most out of meetings and warning signs of bad or exploitative practice
- Understand the role of evidence in asylum, human rights and immigration applications, what is considered “good” evidence and how to write helpful supporting letters
