Maison Foo’s next Sanctuary Café with Derby Theatre is in 3 weeks (Friday 17th April)!

We are very much looking forward to hosting a safe space for people seeking sanctuary, full of the usual joy and love. A place for people to meet, chat and be creative together.

We will have treats and tea and lovely vibes.

Please see attached a flyer for the upcoming Cafes we are running in partnership with Derby Theatre.

The next café is:

When: Friday 17th April

Time: 10.30am – 12.30pm

At: Derby Theatre

Sanctuary friends can book a place by emailing Kasia on dtcommunities@derby.ac.uk.

Derby Theatre are holding their next Sanctuary Scratch event on Monday 11th May.

A scratch night is a chance for someone to share their work, get feedback (if that is what they want) and to connect and network with each other.

The work does not have to be about seeking sanctuary or being a refugee but is a chance for those who are artists who are looking for sanctuary and possibly had to leave their practice behind to have the space to share their work and have the platform to do so.

This time we are planning a gallery exhibition with various pieces which could include, videos, photography, paintings/art, sculptures or anything else, but are also open to short live performances like short spoken word or music.

We would also welcome any volunteers who would like to be involved with planning the event.

We have a small budget where we can chat about paying expenses to those who have leave to remain / right to work / or the organisation they are from for supporting. This is dependant on how many people are involved and at the moment we are just looking to see who is interested and what type of work would be showcased.

What to do:

If you know someone who is interested/or you would like to take part:

Please send the following information to dtcommunities@derby.ac.uk

  • What your art/performance is
  • contact information
  • Any support/equipment you would need to display it/perform it.
